T-Ledgers is a CPA-led accounting firm, and we work with small businesses and self-employed people all over Manitoba. We handle bookkeeping, corporate (T2) and personal (T1) tax, GST and Manitoba retail sales tax (RST), payroll and virtual CFO work for clients in Winnipeg, Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and everywhere in between. Every job gets a flat fee before we start, and sorting out books and returns that have fallen years behind is one of the things we do best.

We’re based in Ontario, one time zone east, and work with Manitoba clients entirely online, by phone, video, text or email. Your books live in QuickBooks Online or Xero, receipts go in through Dext, and I review everything before it goes to the CRA or Manitoba Finance. Most Manitoba clients never need to meet us in person, and the work doesn’t suffer for it.

Accounting services for Manitoba businesses

These are starting prices and exclude GST. You’ll get the exact figure in writing after a free call.

  • Bookkeeping, from $350/month (quarterly); monthly bookkeeping from $500/month. Plans at $350 a month (quarterly bookkeeping), $500 or $700 (monthly bookkeeping), depending on volume and reporting. That covers reconciliations, GST returns, Manitoba RST returns if you’re registered, financial statements and year-end-ready books, reviewed by a CPA.
  • Manitoba RST registration and filing through TAXcess. If your business has to collect Manitoba RST, we can register you, set RST up properly in your books, and prepare and file your RST returns through Manitoba’s TAXcess online system. That includes catching up on missed returns. Quoted on the call, or included in a bookkeeping plan.
  • Catch-up bookkeeping and back taxes, from $1,800 per year. We rebuild missing years from your bank and credit card statements and file the overdue GST, RST and T2 returns in the right order. Personal T1 returns are quoted separately. Letters from the CRA or Manitoba Finance’s Taxation Division are handled as part of the job.
  • Corporate tax (T2) and GST, from $800. Year-end financial statements and your T2, including the Manitoba schedules, prepared and planned by a CPA. Manitoba corporate tax is filed on the federal T2 and collected by the CRA, so there’s no separate provincial corporate return. Nil returns for inactive corporations start at $249.
  • Personal tax (T1), from $110. For employees, self-employed people, landlords and owner-managers, with Manitoba credits and the MB428 included. Simple slips-only returns start at $49.
  • Payroll, quoted on the call. Pay runs, CRA source deductions, T4s and ROEs, set up to Manitoba employment standards. We also flag Manitoba’s Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Levy if your payroll gets close to the exemption.
  • Virtual CFO, from $2,500/month. Cash-flow forecasts, budgets, KPIs and regular strategy sessions with a CPA, without the cost of a full-time CFO.

About our fees: Manitoba clients pay 5% GST on top of our fees. If you’re GST-registered, you can usually claim it back as an input tax credit. Separately, Manitoba RST may apply to some accounting services in Manitoba. See Manitoba RST Bulletin 057, Accounting Services. Current GST rates: CRA GST/HST rates page.

Incorporation: we only offer incorporation to Ontario businesses. If you’re setting up a Manitoba corporation, we can take over as soon as it’s registered and handle your books, payroll accounts, GST and RST, and your T2 every year.

Why Manitoba owners work with T-Ledgers

I’m Wajahat Ajmal, CPA, FCCA. I set up T-Ledgers for owners who want a straight answer and a fixed price, whether the books are spotless or there’s a Manitoba RST assessment sitting unopened on the desk.

A CPA on every file

I review the work before anything goes to the CRA. Nothing is filed without my sign-off.

Flat fees in writing

You get the price before we start. If the scope changes, we agree the new price with you first.

Tell us if a CRA deadline is close and we will put it first.

Cloud tools

QuickBooks Online or Xero for the books and Dext for receipts. We take over your file or set one up.

Phone or video

We meet remotely with clients anywhere in Manitoba. If you are visiting Ontario, you can book a meeting at our Mississauga office.

We also match prices: send a comparable written quote from another Canadian CPA or bookkeeping firm for the same work and we will match it. A 24/7 receptionist answers the phone, so a real person picks up.

Manitoba tax rules that come up most

Where a figure changes often, I link the government page instead of just quoting the number. If a page and this summary ever disagree, the government page wins, and we’ll confirm the current figure for your situation on the call. Official sources checked October 2026.

  • Sales tax note: GST plus Manitoba RST. Manitoba currently has 5% GST, collected by the CRA, plus a separate 7% retail sales tax (RST) run by Manitoba Finance’s Taxation Division. Manitoba doesn’t use HST. RST has its own registration, its own returns and its own list of what’s taxable, so a business can owe GST, RST, both or neither. Current rates: CRA GST/HST rates page and Manitoba RST (gov.mb.ca).
  • RST covers some services, not just goods. Besides most goods, Manitoba RST applies to some services, such as legal, engineering, architectural and security services, and some repair and installation work. A business can owe RST on what it sells, and it may also have to self-assess RST on taxable items bought from out-of-province suppliers that don’t charge it. In catch-up files we often find businesses that never registered for RST when they should have. Details: Manitoba RST (gov.mb.ca).
  • Small business corporate rate. A Canadian-controlled private corporation in Manitoba currently pays no provincial tax (0%) on the first $500,000 of active business income. With the federal 9%, the combined rate is 9%, one of the lowest in Canada. Income above the limit is taxed at the general rate. Current rates: CRA corporation tax rates page. Caution: the 0% rate applies only to active business income up to the $500,000 limit. Investment (passive) income earned inside a CCPC is taxed at much higher rates, and passive income over $50,000 a year grinds down the small business limit. See our guide to corporate tax rates in Canada.
  • Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Levy (HE Levy). Manitoba’s payroll levy applies only to employers with a permanent establishment in Manitoba. Employers whose total annual payroll is $2.5 million or less are exempt. Between $2.5 million and $5 million, the levy is 4.3% of the amount over $2.5 million, and above $5 million it’s 2.15% of total payroll. Associated companies share one exemption, so a growing group can cross the threshold without noticing. We track it as part of payroll. Current rates and thresholds: Manitoba HE Levy (Manitoba Finance).
  • Two filings, two offices. Your T2 goes to the CRA, which also collects Manitoba corporate tax. Separately, every Manitoba corporation files an annual return with the Manitoba Companies Office, due by the end of the month after its anniversary month. Miss it two years in a row and the corporation is dissolved, and you’d have to file Articles of Revival to bring it back. Current fees and filing: Manitoba Companies Office.
  • Employment standards. Manitoba sets its own rules for vacation pay and general holidays, including Louis Riel Day in February, and payroll has to follow them. Details: Manitoba Employment Standards.

Law: Excise Tax Act s.165(1) (5% GST imposed); Income Tax Act s.125(1) (small business deduction); The Retail Sales Tax Act, CCSM c.R130 (Manitoba RST); The Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act, CCSM c.H24 (payroll levy); The Employment Standards Code, CCSM c.E110.

Manitoba cities we serve

We work remotely with businesses and self-employed people across Manitoba, including:

  • Winnipeg: accountant in Winnipeg
  • Brandon
  • Steinbach
  • Winkler
  • Portage la Prairie

We also work with clients in Selkirk, Morden, Thompson, Dauphin and rural Manitoba. If you have an internet connection, we can work with you.

Behind on your books? Catch-up is our speciality

If you are a few years behind, you are not unusual, and it is fixable. We start with your bank and credit card statements, rebuild the oldest year first, then file what is outstanding in the right order: GST and provincial sales tax returns, T2s and personal returns. If the CRA has sent letters or estimated assessments, we deal with them as part of the job. Penalties and interest keep growing until you file, so waiting rarely helps.

Catch-up work starts from $1,800 per year + HST/GST. See catch-up bookkeeping, back tax filing and a real file in our catch-up case study.

Behind with the CRA? Voluntary disclosure

If you have unfiled returns or income you never reported, the CRA’s Voluntary Disclosures Program (VDP) lets you correct it before the CRA contacts you, with relief on penalties and part of the interest. Many Manitoba owners come to us only after a CRA letter arrives; coming forward first usually gets a better result.

  • The law behind it: the CRA can waive or cancel penalties and interest for up to 10 calendar years back under Income Tax Act s.220(3.1) (income tax) and Excise Tax Act s.281.1(1) (GST/HST). The VDP is how the CRA applies that power to people who come forward.
  • Unprompted applications (no CRA contact about the issue yet) normally get 100% penalty relief and 75% interest relief. Prompted applications (after a CRA letter that names a specific error or sets a deadline) normally get up to 100% penalty relief and 25% interest relief. These rules apply to applications received on or after October 1, 2025 (CRA Information Circular IC00-1R7).
  • Who qualifies: you must apply before an audit or investigation starts, include all the corrected returns and documents, be at least one year or one reporting period past the due date, and pay the estimated tax or ask for a payment arrangement (CRA’s VDP eligibility page).

We rebuild the missing years, prepare the corrected T1, T2 and GST/HST returns, and file them with Form RC199 so the CRA reviews everything together. Pricing depends on how many years are involved and is part of our catch-up bookkeeping quote, which starts from $1,800 per year + HST/GST. The CRA decides each application case by case, so relief is never guaranteed.

Manitoba RST is run by Manitoba Finance, not the CRA, so unfiled or under-reported RST is dealt with separately with the province.

Law: Income Tax Act s.150(1) (filing deadlines); Income Tax Act s.162(1) (late-filing penalty); Income Tax Act s.161(1) (interest on unpaid tax); Income Tax Act s.152(7) (assessment not dependent on return); Excise Tax Act s.238(1) (GST/HST returns).

Who we work with in Manitoba

  • Trucking and logistics. Winnipeg is one of the country’s big freight hubs. We work with owner-operators and small fleets, with fuel, equipment CCA and per-diem records.
  • Construction and trades. Builders, renovators and subcontractors, with T5018 slips, holdbacks, job costing, and RST on materials and taxable repair and installation work.
  • Manufacturing and family businesses. Owner-managed manufacturers and distributors in Steinbach, Winkler and the Pembina Valley, with inventory, job costing and RST on purchases.
  • E-commerce and online sellers. Shopify, Amazon and payment-processor reconciliations, + HST/GST and RST on sales shipped to Manitoba customers.
  • Self-employed people. T2125 business income, GST registration once you cross $30,000, Manitoba RST if what you sell is taxable, instalments, and keeping business and personal spending apart.

I highly recommend T-Ledgers. Their communication is exceptional. You won’t have to wait days for a response. Waji really takes his time to explain things in-depth with his clients. He provides the ins and outs behind every major decision. Our corporation was 2 years behind on filings and Waji and his firm got all the work done in a timely manner, as promised.

I highly recommend **T Ledger's Accounting**. He has gone above and beyond for me every single time I’ve needed his help. Even when something is urgent or needs to be handled last minute, he gets it done right away and makes sure everything is taken care of properly. He’s the type of accountant you can genuinely depend on. No matter what situation you’re dealing with, he takes the time to understand it, explains what needs to be done, and handles everything with a high level of professionalism. Reliable, knowledgeable, responsive, and always willing to help. It’s hard to find someone you can trust to handle important financial and accounting matters, and I’ve had nothing but a great experience with T Ledger's Accounting. **Beyond highly recommended. If you’re looking for an accountant you can rely on, this is the place to go.**

The client portal T-Ledgers uses makes the whole process much easier than dealing with emails and PDFs back and forth. Document sharing is simple, questions get answered quickly, and you can always see where things stand. It's a modern way of handling accounting and I appreciated that.

T-Ledgers handled my GST filing and corporate T2 together, which saved me a lot of time coordinating between different people. They understood my business quickly and flagged some bookkeeping gaps I needed to address. Took a lot of stress off my plate and I'll be using them again.

T-Ledgers made filing my corporate taxes straightforward from start to finish. Wajahat was responsive throughout the process and clearly explained what documents I needed to provide and why. The turnaround was reasonable and everything was handled professionally. I'll definitely be coming back next year and would recommend them to any small business owner looking for a reliable accountant.

I fully recommend Wajahat for one's tax filing needs. He will explain what he's doing and why, rather than just asking for documents and going silent, ensuring the customer is informed at every stage of the process. He is trustworthy and transparent when it comes to pricing and quality of the work for small business tax needs.

Frequently asked questions

Can an Ontario-based, CPA-led accounting firm do my Manitoba taxes?

Yes. Manitoba corporate and personal tax are both filed with the CRA through the federal T2 and T1, with the Manitoba schedules attached, and we prepare those schedules. RST returns go to Manitoba Finance, and we file those too. Working from a different province makes no difference to the work.

How much does an accountant cost in Manitoba?

Our flat fees are the same everywhere: bookkeeping from $350 a month (quarterly; monthly from $500), catch-up work from $1,800 per year, personal returns from $110 ($49 for a simple slips-only return), corporate returns from $800, nil T2s from $249 and Virtual CFO from $2,500 a month. Payroll is quoted after a short call. Manitoba clients pay 5% GST on top, and Manitoba RST (7%) may apply to some accounting services (personal tax returns exempt).

Will you match another firm's price, and how fast do you reply?

Yes to the first. Send a comparable written quote from another Canadian CPA or bookkeeping firm for the same work and we’ll match it. We reply within one business day, and a 24/7 receptionist answers the phone, so a real person picks up.

Do you charge GST on your fees?

Yes. Manitoba clients pay 5% GST on top of our fees, and Manitoba RST (7%) may apply to some accounting services that relate to Manitoba (personal tax returns exempt). If your business is registered for GST/HST, you can usually claim it back as an input tax credit.

Do you prepare SR&ED claims for Manitoba companies?

Yes. We prepare SR&ED claims end to end: the eligibility review, project write-ups, the T661 claim form and the T2 filing, plus support if the CRA reviews the claim. Pricing depends on the claim and is quoted after a free consultation.

Do I need to register for Manitoba RST as well as GST?

Possibly. They’re separate taxes with separate rules. GST registration usually kicks in once your taxable sales go over $30,000 in a single quarter or over four consecutive quarters. Manitoba RST depends on what you sell and who you sell to, and it covers some services as well as most goods. We’ll work out which ones apply to you on the first call.

Does my business have to pay Manitoba's payroll levy?

Most small businesses don’t. Manitoba’s Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Levy applies only to employers with a permanent establishment in Manitoba, and only once total annual payroll goes over $2.5 million. Associated companies share one exemption. We check where you stand when we set up payroll and keep an eye on it as you grow.

Can you incorporate my business in Manitoba?

We only offer incorporation in Ontario. If you’re setting up a Manitoba corporation, we can take over once it’s registered and handle your books, payroll accounts, GST and RST, and your T2 every year.

Can you catch up several years of unfiled returns?

Yes, it is our speciality. We rebuild the books from bank statements, file the overdue sales tax returns and T2s in the right order (personal T1 returns are quoted separately), and deal with any CRA letters. Catch-up work starts from $1,800 per year + HST/GST.

Can you help me use the CRA Voluntary Disclosures Program?

Yes. We rebuild the missing years, prepare the corrected returns and file them with Form RC199. If no one at the CRA has contacted you about the issue, an application received on or after October 1, 2025 normally gets 100% penalty relief and 75% interest relief. The VDP application is quoted separately after a free review. Any catch-up bookkeeping starts from $1,800 per year + HST/GST. The CRA decides each case, so relief is not guaranteed.

I already got a CRA letter. Is it too late for voluntary disclosure?

Not always. If the letter names a specific error or sets a deadline, your application is treated as prompted and normally gets up to 100% penalty relief and 25% interest relief. Once an audit or investigation has started on that issue, the VDP is closed to you, so it is worth acting quickly.
