Client account records, HST for clients inside and outside Canada and practice finances, handled by a CPA-led accounting firm.
24/7 receptionist, a real person answers.
T-Ledgers is a CPA-led accounting firm working with Ontario Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants and immigration consulting firms, from solo practitioners to practices with several licensees and support staff. Wajahat Ajmal, CPA, FCCA, has been practising since 2020. We handle bookkeeping, HST, payroll and corporate and personal tax, and every return is reviewed by a CPA.
Immigration consulting has its own record-keeping rules. Advance payments go into a client account, government fees are often paid on a client’s behalf, and many clients live outside Canada, which changes how HST applies.
Rules, rates and thresholds change. We confirm the current figure for your situation on the call before relying on it.
The College’s Code of Professional Conduct requires advance payments to be held in a client account at an approved financial institution, with receipts, separate records for each client and no other funds mixed in. We keep your client account ledger reconciled so your records are ready if the College asks.
Law: Code of Professional Conduct for College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants Licensees s.32 (advance payments held in a client account); College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants Act.
Your professional fees are revenue. Government processing fees and other amounts you pay on a client’s behalf need to be recorded consistently so they aren’t mistaken for your income or expenses. We set up your books to keep these separate.
HST generally applies to your services for clients in Canada. Some services supplied to non-residents can be zero-rated, but there are exceptions, including services rendered to an individual while they’re in Canada. We review where your clients are and when the work is done.
Law: Excise Tax Act s.165 (GST/HST imposed); Excise Tax Act Schedule VI, Part V, s.7 (services supplied to non-residents); Excise Tax Act s.148(1) (small supplier, $30,000).
Clients abroad often pay in US dollars or other currencies. Amounts have to be reported in Canadian dollars, and we record the exchange gains and losses.
We look at whether practising through a corporation makes sense for you, and at owner pay, instalments and the small business deduction.
Law: Income Tax Act s.125(1) and 125(7) (small business deduction; “personal services business”); Income Tax Act s.156.1(1) (instalment threshold).
Keep client files, receipts and bank records for at least six years for tax purposes. Clean books also make College reviews and any CRA questions much simpler.
Law: Income Tax Act s.230(1) and 230(4) (books and records, six years); Excise Tax Act s.286(1) and 286(3) (records, six years).

I highly recommend T-Ledgers. Their communication is exceptional. You won’t have to wait days for a response. Waji really takes his time to explain things in-depth with his clients. He provides the ins and outs behind every major decision. Our corporation was 2 years behind on filings and Waji and his firm got all the work done in a timely manner, as promised.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend **T Ledger's Accounting**. He has gone above and beyond for me every single time I’ve needed his help. Even when something is urgent or needs to be handled last minute, he gets it done right away and makes sure everything is taken care of properly. He’s the type of accountant you can genuinely depend on. No matter what situation you’re dealing with, he takes the time to understand it, explains what needs to be done, and handles everything with a high level of professionalism. Reliable, knowledgeable, responsive, and always willing to help. It’s hard to find someone you can trust to handle important financial and accounting matters, and I’ve had nothing but a great experience with T Ledger's Accounting. **Beyond highly recommended. If you’re looking for an accountant you can rely on, this is the place to go.**Posted on Google![]()

I fully recommend Wajahat for one's tax filing needs. He will explain what he's doing and why, rather than just asking for documents and going silent, ensuring the customer is informed at every stage of the process. He is trustworthy and transparent when it comes to pricing and quality of the work for small business tax needs.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
