I highly recommend T-Ledgers. Their communication is exceptional. You won’t have to wait days for a response. Waji really takes his time to explain things in-depth with his clients. He provides the ins and outs behind every major decision. Our corporation was 2 years behind on filings and Waji and his firm got all the work done in a timely manner, as promised.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend **T Ledger's Accounting**. He has gone above and beyond for me every single time I’ve needed his help. Even when something is urgent or needs to be handled last minute, he gets it done right away and makes sure everything is taken care of properly. He’s the type of accountant you can genuinely depend on. No matter what situation you’re dealing with, he takes the time to understand it, explains what needs to be done, and handles everything with a high level of professionalism. Reliable, knowledgeable, responsive, and always willing to help. It’s hard to find someone you can trust to handle important financial and accounting matters, and I’ve had nothing but a great experience with T Ledger's Accounting. **Beyond highly recommended. If you’re looking for an accountant you can rely on, this is the place to go.**Posted on Google![]()

I fully recommend Wajahat for one's tax filing needs. He will explain what he's doing and why, rather than just asking for documents and going silent, ensuring the customer is informed at every stage of the process. He is trustworthy and transparent when it comes to pricing and quality of the work for small business tax needs.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Ottawa personal returns have a few patterns of their own. Many households have a federal public-service pension plan and union dues on their T4, students at the University of Ottawa, Carleton and Algonquin file returns with tuition slips, consultants and contractors file self-employed returns, and homeowners must now make a yearly declaration to the City for its Vacant Unit Tax.
I’m Wajahat Ajmal, CPA, FCCA. T-Ledgers is a CPA-led accounting firm practising since 2020. We work with Ottawa clients by phone, video and email, with documents shared through a secure portal. Our office is in Mississauga if you’re ever in the GTA, and meetings there are by appointment.

| Local situation | How we handle it | Official source |
|---|---|---|
| Public-service pensions and buybacks | Pension plan contributions on your T4, plus any past-service buyback you paid, are deducted on your return within the limits that apply. | CRA: RPP deduction |
| Students at uOttawa, Carleton and Algonquin | Tuition is claimed from the T2202, and any unused amount is carried forward or transferred to a parent, up to the limit. | CRA: tuition amounts |
| Vacant Unit Tax declaration | Every residential owner declares each property’s status to the City every year. If you rent out a second property, the declaration and the rental income on your return should agree. | City of Ottawa Vacant Unit Tax |
| Short-term rental host permit | Renting your principal residence for under 30 nights needs a City permit. The income goes on your return, with costs split between personal and rental use. | Ottawa short-term rental permits |
Law: Income Tax Act s.147.2(4) (RPP contributions); Income Tax Act s.118.61 (unused tuition carryforward); Municipal Act, 2001 s.338.2(1) (vacant unit tax); Income Tax Act s.9 (income from property).
For public servants and their families, the return is usually straightforward but easy to get slightly wrong: a pension buyback deducted in the wrong year, union dues or professional fees missed, or child care claimed by the wrong spouse. We check each slip and claim against last year’s return.
Self-employed Ottawa consultants and contractors get a T2125 with home office, vehicle and equipment costs, and their HST return reconciled to the same numbers. Landlords with a basement unit or a second property get rent and shared costs reported on a T776, consistent with the City declaration.
Deadlines, penalties and relief: our personal tax page.
Law: Income Tax Act s.150(1)(d) (filing deadline); Income Tax Act s.156.1(4) (balance due); Income Tax Act s.162(1) (late-filing penalty).
