A new year has begin and as always, many people are required to pay their taxes on incomes earned in the last year.
Now, here are the key deadlines Canadians will encounter this year:
The first deadline information is for the personal taxes.
For people earning income in Canada that is not self-employment income, both your tax return and taxes owing are due on April 30, 2025.
This is the most common filing scenario for individuals.
Either your or your spouse earned a self-employed income? Well, then your tax return deadline is June 16, 2025. (Normally, it would be June 15, but because that day lands on a Sunday in 2025, the CRA ggives you an extra day.)
Keep in mind, however, that any taxes you owe must still be paid by April 30, 2025, even though you have a later filing deadline – odd right?! But thats how it is!
You can contribute until March 3, 2025, for it to count toward your 2024 taxes and reduce your tax payable.
Corporations can have a different deadline as they can be following a fiscal-year end rather than a calendar-year end.
Your corporation tax filing deadline is 6-months after your fiscal year ends but taxes payable are due earlier.
If you are a Canadian Controlled Private Corporation (CCPC), then you will mostly have 3-months to pay your taxes from the fiscal-year end otherwise it is 2-months from the fiscal-year end.
Paying significant amounts to individuals or subcontractors? You may have to file T4A slips or T5018 slips.:
All of the above types of information slips are due to be filed with the CRA and delivered to recipients by February 28, 2025.
Here, the deadlines depend on GST/HST filing frequency.
For Monthly and Quarterly filers, it is one month from the reporting period end.
For Annual filers, it is three months from the reporting period end.
For Self-Employed filers, filing Annually, their due date is different as the year-end for them is 31st of December:
Well, the tax filing deadline for trust accounts is 90 days from the trust’s tax year end.
If you’re required to make installment payments throughout the year, here are your deadlines:
Dont miss those deadlines or you will be subject to interest! Set reminders now!
